* Serves 4

What do I need?

  • 1 apple, peeled and cored
  • 1 stick celery, wiped clean
  • 1 onion, peeled
  • 400g fresh boneless pork fillets, minced - again, you can buy ready prepared pork mince
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp oil

How do I make them?

  1. Grate the apple, celery and onion (manually or using a food processor) and mix the grated vegetables with the minced meat and egg. Shape them into 4 burgers.
  2. Heat the oil in a frying pan, add the burgers and fry on both sides until cooked through – about 7 minutes each side.
  3. These delicious burgers can be served in a bun, or if you want to be a bit different try serving with a slice of pineapple.
  4. Instead of serving with normal chips, why not make yummy parsnip chips? Peel and cut parsnips into sticks and bake them in olive oil for 20-30 minutes in the oven at 180°C (turning occasionally).

Why is it good for me?

  • Apples and onions are good sources of the antioxidant quercitin for healthy lungs.
  • Pork contains iron and zinc, also found in eggs, cheese, nuts and seeds.
  • The onion family, which also includes garlic and chives, is good for immune health.
