Fruit sticks with chocolate
This dessert is great fun to eat and can be adapted to include your child’s favourite fruit. The cocktail sticks can be removed if serving to small children

* Serves 4
What do I need?
- ½ canteloupe melon, seeds scooped out
- 1 mango, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 10 strawberries, sliced
- Other fruit of your choice (eg. banana), chopped
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Cocktail sticks
For the chocolate sauce:
- 100g good quality milk chocolate
- 150ml cup single cream
- 1-2 tbsp unrefined caster sugar, to taste
How do I make them?
- Using a melon baller, scoop the flesh out of the melon and place it in a bowl. Put all the fruit into the bowl and toss in the lemon juice.
- Thread the pieces of fruit onto the cocktail sticks.
- To make the chocolate sauce: put the chocolate, cream and sugar in a heatproof bowl, placed over a saucepan of gently simmering water. Gently heat the chocolate, stirring occasionally, until melted. Leave to cool slightly, then pour into four individual dishes.
- To serve, each person dips the fruit sticks into their own pot of chocolate sauce.
Why is it good for us?
- Strawberries contain vitamin K and manganese which promote bone health and mangoes are high in fibre.
- A delicious, clever way to get the kids towards their five-a-day.
